Welcome to Festivals of India
India is a land of many religions and languages and is often hailed as the land of festivals. These festivals are characterized by unique celebrations, color, prayers, rituals and enthusiasm. For this project, we have selected the eight most popular festivals celebrated among Hindi, Bangla, Punjabi and Urdu communities. These festivals are Lohri, Holi, Eid-ul-Fitr, Shab-e-Barat, Durga Puja, Dussehra, Muharram and Diwali. We have created 31 modules which show how people from different religious and linguistic backgrounds coexist harmoniously. The clips for these modules were shot in Chandigarh in Punjab, Delhi and neighborhoods around Delhi, and Barsana, Vrindavan and Mathura in Uttar Pradesh. These modules include situations in urban and rural locations and reflect real-life interactions. Native speakers of different backgrounds, ages and genders are the participants of the various events. The events are unscripted, unrehearsed and non-sequential.
